Thank You!

Martha and I wish to thank everyone for the beautiful picture that you gave us.  It is the view that we had of ghe beach and Mt. right out our flat at Joan Criags.   We already have a prominent place for it in our main room right above a picture of the Pantheon in Rome.

I want to also thank your for your attention, interaction and interest  in class.

Of course the class is not yet over.  I look forward to reading your blog this week, your paper, and your final exam.

Tks

Blog Discussion Assignment No. 4 for Nov. 14 to Nov. 21

We have been discussing the missional church concept as well as some practical places and approaches to meet the unchurched.   In this blog I would like for you to discuss (with each other) the following:

1) In you own home town and/or place that you wish to minister in, what are the places that you think it will be best to meet the "unchurched" in order to begin to build true relationships with them.   Describe these places by name and why they would be good.
2) Describe the ways you believe you could begin a conversation with those you have meet that would lead to their considering spiritual things.   What would say to them or what kind of questions would you ask.  Note:  I do not wish you to repeat what I have in the slides, but rather think of what you believe would be effective with the people you would know are come to know.
3) Ask each other ( as well me) what questions that you would like to have further discussion and/or answers on concerning evangelism to the unchurched in a postmodern age or the missional church concept.

Special Announcement!

I note that as yet no one last gone to the spbc1550@yahoo.com account ( password  evangelism) and sent me  your Spiritual Gifts inventory file.    Though everyone will receive full credit for submitting the hard copy and posting the results on the blog, I think some of you did not really the copy the correct portion of this properly ( as the format I received was not the correct one).   It does appear that everyone did sort and post their top five correctly.  Other tabs on spreadsheet had the sorted information in a correct format.

Therefore, I would greatly appreciate it if everyone would:  1) Open the spbc1550@yahoo.com account 2) Attachment the entire Spiritual Gifts inventory file to an email you send back to spbc1550@yahoo.com.  Do not just copy a portion of the Excell spreadsheet and send that back, but attach the entire file that you did.

If you will do the above, I will ensure that it sorted correctly and send it back to you.

I will also give you some individual feedback on your individual results.    All of the above is separate from any requirements or assessment for the course.  (It doesnt affect your grade) I just wish for everyone to get the full benefits of this inventory.

Tks
Prof. Nored

Blog Discussion Assignment No. 3 Nov. 7 to Nov. 14

We have been discussing in class the "missional church" and the use of Strengths and Spiritual Gifts. To begin our discussion this week, consider the following questions:

1) How do you believe members view "evangelism" in a typical congregation and the way a truly "missional" church 's members would view "evangelism"? Explain why you think this.
2) What difference does it make if members know what their spiritual gifts and strengths are? Why would this be true?
3) The Gallop organization has found that postmodern individuals who engage in service to others first ( have meaningful experiences) using their strengths and gifts are several times more likely to pray, read the bible, give financially, etc. Why do you believe this is true? What are the implications of this for evangelism?

Note: As before, you don't have to answer every question, but do have to engage in the discussion. I particularly would like you to discuss these questions with each other this week. Please ask each other questions you might have--- particularly as the above issues might affect how you go about work in your hometown.

StrengthsFinder and Spiritual Gifts Inventory Assignment

Use the comment portion of this post to post the results of your StrengthsFinder results and the results of your Spiritual Gifts Inventory.   Do not use this post for discussion.   Note that these inventories are to be completed and posted by Nov. 7th.   Note also that hard copies are to be turned into class as well.

Use This Post for Assignment No. 2 Required Posting

Use the comment for this Post to post your Writing Assignment for the specific Reading assigned for "They Like Jesus, but Not the Church".  Note that a hard copy is also to  be turned on Nov. 7.  The electronic copy for this post is also due on Nov. 7 by the beginning of class.

I am requiring this so that everyone in the class gets a least a summary of each chapter to read.

Thanks.

P.S.: Use the comment section of this post only for posting your written assignment above.  Do not us it for discussion.

Blogging Assignment No. 2 for Oct. 31-Nov. 7

We have been examining the effect of the postmodern worldview on our culture as well as how we should address these attitudes. And, you were each assigned specific sections in "They Like Jesus, but Not the Church" . Discuss in your blog the following questions/issues ( or others relating to this those of you might pose).

1. What do you think causes the unchurched to like Jesus but not the church?
2. What specific actions should we take individually and/or as "the church" to change this attitude.?
3. Out of all the negative attitudes that the unchurched think Christians have, which one is the most destructive to postmoderns accepting the gospel? What should we do about it?

4. This question relates to generational attitudes towards "church": Do you think we should or should not adopt those things postmoderns view as needed when "doing church". If so, when and why or if not why not?

Note: You do not have to answer every question posed. But, you do have to particpate in the discussion that is ongoing on the blog.

Welcome

Hello Everyone,

I wish to extend a sincere welcome to all of you who are currently enrolled in the course 1550 Evangelism II. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you better. Together we will explore the new worldview of the postmodern age and what that means for evangelism and mission for the Christians today.

This blog will be used everyweek to provide a means we can have meaningful conversations together as a class. Class time itself is limited. Therefore, this blog gives you an opportunity to ask questions that there may not be time for in class as well as exchange ideas between your fellow classmates.

The first step in using this blog is to create an account on google. Just follow the steps given and create your account so you can post discussions on this blog.

P.S.: Though this blog is created specifically for a class on postmodern evangelism at South Pacific Bible College in New Zealand, others not part of this class are welcome to submit comments and questions as well
